Israel kills Middle East Eye journalist in Gaza attack on hospital

An Israeli air strike killed Middle East Eye reporter Ahmad Abu Aziz in the attack on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on Monday.
Palestinian health officials said the bombing killed at least 20 Palestinians, including a second MEE contributor, Mohammad Salama, two other journalists and a first responder.
Ahmad Abu Aziz, a freelance journalist based in Khan Younis, had contributed to dozens of reports for MEE since the Israeli genocide in Gaza began in October 2023.
Abu Aziz was survived by his wife, whom he married during the war.
The other journalists killed were Hossam al-Masri, a Reuters cameraman; Mariam Abu Daqa, who contributed to Independent Arabia and AP; and Moath Abu Taha, who worked with NBC.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned Israel for the strikes, saying it represented "an open war against free media, with the aim of terrorising journalists and preventing them from fulfilling their professional duty of exposing its crimes to the world".
More than 240 Palestinian journalists have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza since the Hamas-led attacks on 7 October, according to syndicate.
The Israeli army said that it has ordered an inquiry into the attack and that it does not target journalists.
