Keir Starmer 'gravely concerned' about Israeli targeting of journalists in Gaza

Keir Starmer, the UK prime minister, is "gravely concerned" about the repeated targeting of journalists in Gaza, his spokesperson has said, after six Palestinian reporters were killed in an Israeli air strike.

"We are gravely concerned by the repeated targeting of journalists in Gaza," Starmer's spokesperson told reporters on Monday.

"Reporters covering conflicts are afforded protection under international humanitarian law, and journalists must be able to report independently, without fear, and Israel must ensure journalists can carry out their work safely."

Al Jazeera said that five of its journalists were killed in an Israeli strike on a tent near al-Shifa hospital on Sunday night, including Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qraiqea.

A sixth reporter, Palestinian freelance photojournalist Mohammed Al-Khaldi, succumbed to his wounds from the strike.
