One child killed every hour in Gaza war: Save the Children

Save the Children says that on average at least one Palestinian child has been killed every hour in Gaza during nearly 23 months of war.

Figures from Gaza authorities show more than 20,000 children – about two percent of the territory’s child population – have been killed since October 2023. Among them are at least 1,009 babies under the age of one, with nearly half born and killed during the war.

“This is a shameful statistic – a horrific new low in a war characterised by a constant stream of them,” said Ahmad Alhendawi, Save the Children’s regional director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe.

“Worst of all, we saw this coming. Systematic attacks on children’s homes, playgrounds, schools and hospitals, starvation by design – the world is doing nothing to stop it.”
