Spain announces measures to stop Gaza genocide, pursuing perpetrators

Spain on Monday announced nine measures aimed at stopping the genocide in Gaza. These measures include an arms embargo on Israel, closing airspace to all aircraft carrying weapons or ammunition to Israel and a ban on vessels carrying fuel for the Israeli army from using Spanish ports.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, in a televised address, said, "The measures aim to stop the genocide in Gaza, pursue its perpetrators and support the Palestinian population."

Sanchez said:

  • We must work to bring peace to the Middle East.

  • Everything we have done so far has failed to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

  • We have decided to close Spanish ports to Israeli ships carrying defence systems.

  • We have decided to increase humanitarian support to the population in the Gaza Strip.

  • We will increase our contribution to UNRWA funding by €10 million ($11.7 million).

  • We have decided to close our airspace to all aircraft carrying weapons or ammunition to Israel.

  • We will prevent tankers supplying fuel to the Israeli military from docking in Spanish ports.

  • There is a difference between defending your country and bombing hospitals and starving people to death.

  • The government will pass a bill to implement an effective arms embargo against Israel.

  • What Israel is doing is not defending itself, but eliminating a defenceless people
