France and UK condemn Israel's Doha attack

French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday condemned Israel’s strikes in Qatar, saying they were unacceptable. “I express my solidarity with Qatar and its emir, Sheikh Tamim Al Thani. War must under no circumstances spread in the region,” Macron said.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also condemned the strikes, “which violate Qatar’s sovereignty and risk further escalation across the region”.

“The priority must be an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a huge surge in aid into Gaza,” he said.

Israeli air strikes hit Doha, targeting senior Hamas officials who had gathered to discuss the latest US ceasefire proposal for Gaza. The Israeli military confirmed it had carried out the strikes, saying it targeted Hamas’s senior leadership.

Hamas said that its leadership has survived Israeli air strikes, but five members of its delegation were killed, including the son of senior leader Khalil al-Hayya.

A member of Qatar's security forces was also killed, the country's interior ministry said on Tuesday.

Countries including Pakistan, the UAE and Turkey have condemned the attack carried out by Israel against the Hamas negotiation delegation in the Qatari capital, calling it an act of aggression and a brazen violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar.
