Morning recap
Good morning Middle East Eye readers,
Israel’s genocide on Gaza continued, killing at least 52 people, including nine Palestinians seeking humanitarian aid. In other impotant developments:
-
Israeli warplanes struck a residential compound in Doha’s diplomatic quarter on Tuesday, targeting senior Hamas figures.
-
Hamas said its top leadership survived the raid, but five of its members were killed.
-
Qatar confirmed a member of its security forces was also killed, denouncing the attack as “cowardly”.
-
Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said the United States gave no prior warning, adding Washington only phoned ten minutes after the strikes began.
-
The White House distanced itself, saying the raid undermines both US and Israeli objectives. President Donald Trump assured Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani that “such a thing will not happen again on their soil.”
-
Regional condemnation poured in. Saudi Arabia warned of “grave consequences” from Israel’s “criminal transgressions” and its “blatant violation of international law.”
