Israeli ambassador to US says world will 'get over' Doha attack
Israeli ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, on Wednesday said that despite criticism over Israel’s bombing of Doha, the world will “get over it”.
“Right now, we may be subject to a little bit of criticism. They’ll get over it,” Leiter said in an interview with Fox News.
He also said that Israel would “get them next time”, referring to Hamas negotiators targeted in Monday’s strike.
“If we didn’t get them this time, we’ll get them the next time,” Leiter added.
Israeli air strikes hit Doha, targeting senior Hamas officials who had gathered to discuss the latest US ceasefire proposal for Gaza. The Israeli military confirmed it had carried out the strikes, saying it targeted Hamas’s senior leadership.
Hamas said that its leadership has survived Israeli air strikes, but five members of its delegation were killed, including the son of senior leader Khalil al-Hayya.
A member of Qatar's security forces was also killed, the country's interior ministry said.
Countries including Pakistan, the UAE and Turkey have condemned the attack carried out by Israel against the Hamas negotiation delegation in the Qatari capital, calling it an act of aggression and a brazen violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE were among the Gulf countries condemning the attack, warning of "grave consequences resulting from the Israeli occupation’s persistence in its criminal transgressions".
