Qatar calls for 'collective response' to Israeli attack on capital Doha

Qatar has a vowed a "collective response" to Israel's attack on its capital Doha that left six people dead on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani told CNN that "the entire Gulf region is at risk" after Tuesday's strikes targeting the Hamas political leadership.

“There is a response that will happen from the region. This response is currently under consultation and discussion with other partners in the region,” he said.

"We are hoping for something meaningful that deters Israel from continuing this bullying."

He added that he was reconsidering Qatar's role as a mediator after the attacks, suggesting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "was just wasting our time".

A source close to the Palestinian movement told Middle East Eye that all senior leaders targeted in the attack survived, including Khalil al-Hayya, Khaled Meshal, Zaher Jabarin, and others.

Qatari Lance Corporal Badr Saad Mohammed al-Humaidi al-Dosari was also killed in the attack, as well as five Hamas members.

Those killed included Khalil al-Hayya’s son, Hammam al-Hayya, and his office director, Jihad Lubbad, according to sources. Several others were wounded.

Hamas officials were meeting to discuss the latest US ceasefire proposal for Gaza, presented to Hamas in recent days.

According to media reports, around 12 air strikes hit residential buildings in Doha around 4pm local time.

The Israeli military confirmed it carried out the strikes, saying it had targeted Hamas’s senior leadership.

Funeral's were set to be held on Thursday at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque for those killed in the attacks.

Charles Stratford, a correspondent for Al Jazeera, said a summit would be held to discuss a planned response to Israel.

"We know that the countries have pulled together their own legal team. They are looking at all legal avenues to have Netanyahu tried for breaking international law,” he said.

“The pressure is definitely mounting on Israel, not only from Qatar, but obviously on a regional and a wider international level," he added.

"And that’s what I think he’s obviously trying to do in giving these very forceful statements to the US network, CNN."
