Israeli army spokesperson posts pager emojis to mark anniversary of Lebanon attack
The Israeli army's Arabic language spokesperson on Wednesday shared a post on X featuring the numbers "17.9" in Arabic numerals, and spelled out using pager emojis.
The post is understood to mark the first anniversary of Israel's pager attack in Lebanon, in which devices linked to Hezbollah had been rigged with explosives, then later detonated. The attacks injured more than 2,931 people and killed at least 37.
Several children were maimed in the attack, and at least one was killed.
Former CIA chief Leon Panetta at the time described it as a terrorist attack.
