Emmanuel Macron says he opposes boycotting Eurovision
French President Emmanuel Macron said he was "not in favour of boycotts" in response to a question about the increasing number of countries pulling out of the Eurovision song contest.
Asked about the withdrawals, which the Netherlands, Spain and others have threatened if Israel takes part in 2026, Macron told Israeli broadcaster N12 that he "never took this approach."
"I always try to be extremely sharp and to be in a situation to explain my position. I am not in favor of the boycott because I want to engage with Israel and I think Israel was first victim of the 7 October, for sure, so I never advocate for a boycott," he said, referring to the Hamas attack that in October 2023 that prompted Israel's ongoing genocide.
France TV, which oversees French involvement in the contest, also affirmed it would be proceeding with the contest on Wednesday.
