Morning update

Morning update

Good morning Middle East Eye readers,

Here are the latest updates from Israel’s genocide in Gaza and developments in the occupied West Bank:

  • In a historic move, the UK's Keir Starmer is set to formally recognise Palestinian statehood on Sunday afternoon.

  • Displacement and deadly bombardment continue in the besieged enclave, particularly Gaza City, where more than 90 civilians were killed on Saturday.

  • The Israeli army said two projectiles were fired from the Gaza Strip, adding that one was intercepted while the other fell in an open area

  •  Israeli authorities on Sunday morning closed the King Hussein Bridge, the only crossing between the occupied West Bank and Jordan, abruptly halting all travel from both sides.

  • The Israeli army also announced its decision to deploy two additional battalions to the West Bank, citing "security requirements" during Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
