Hamas must surrender its weapons, President Mahmoud Abbas says

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, while speaking to the UN conference via a video link on Monday, said that Hamas must surrender its weapons to the Palestinian Authority. 

Abbas said Hamas will not have any role in governance while calling for an immediate ceasefire.

"We need to get aid into Gaza. We need the release of captives," he said. 

We commend the role of Egypt and Qatar in mediating the end of the war and also Egypt and Jordan, which have rejected the displacement plans of the Palestinians, he said.

Abbas is not in New York City for the UN General Assembly as the Trump administration revoked his visa.
