Spain cancels major defence deal with Israel: Report

Spain has cancelled a major defence deal with Israel for supplying advanced aerial technology for its Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet, news website Haaretz reported on Thursday.

This €207m contract cancellation marks the third defence deal to be terminated by Spain, the report said.

Spain on Wednesday approved a law mandating "total" arms embargo on Israel as part of measures aimed at stopping the genocide in Gaza.

Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo said at a news conference that the decree prohibits all exports to Israel of defence material and dual-use products or technologies, and the import of such equipment to Spain.

Cuerpo said the new move would also block requests for the transit of aircraft fuel with potential military applications, and ban imports of products originating from Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories.

"This decree is a big step forward and is pioneering at the international level when it comes to a total arms embargo on Israel," he said.
