Visual evidence disproves Israeli claim that Nasser Hospital strike targeted Hamas camera: Reuters

A Reuters analysis of visual evidence and other information about Israel's attack on a Gaza hospital last month, which killed five journalists, contradicts Israel's explanation that it targeted a Hamas camera.

The Israel Army attacked Gaza's Nasser Hospital on August 25, killing 22 people, including five journalists, who routinely gathered on the hospital stairwell landing to record from a high vantage point and file reports from Gaza's Khan Yunis area.

Among the journalists killed were Mariam Dagga, a photojournalist who freelanced for The Associated Press, and Hussam al-Masri, a photojournalist for Reuters.

The army's initial review into the strike showed that troops targeted a Hamas camera because it was filming them from the hospital, according to a military official who spoke with Reuters. The official said troops viewed the camera with suspicion because it was covered by a towel and because Hamas has used cameras to plan attacks, and a decision was made to destroy it.
