Trump says 'we will get it done' in the Middle East

US President Donald Trump voiced optimism on Sunday about reaching a deal to end the war in Gaza, saying there was “a real chance for greatness in the Middle East,” ahead a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday.
Trump did not share details of what a potential ceasefire-for-captives agreement might look like, but Vice President JD Vance told Fox News that senior US officials were engaged in “very complicated” negotiations with both Israeli and Arab counterparts.
“We have a real chance for Greatness in the Middle East. All are on board for something special, first time ever. We will get it done,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
According to administration officials, Trump’s discussions with Netanyahu are aimed at laying out a framework for an agreement.
On Friday, Trump described talks with regional leaders as intense, adding that both Israel and Hamas were aware of the ongoing contacts, which he said would continue “as long as required.”
Vance said he was “cautiously hopeful” about reaching a deal.
“I feel more optimistic about where we are right now than where we have been at any point in the last few months, but let’s be realistic, these things can get derailed at the very last minute,” he said.
He noted that the proposed plan centres on three priorities: securing the return of all captives, ending Hamas’s threat to Israel, and increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza.
“So I think we’re close to accomplishing all three of those objectives,” Vance said.
The US also presented a 21-point Middle East peace plan at the United Nations in New York last week.
The plan outlines steps including the return of all hostages, a halt to Israeli strikes on Qatar, and renewed Israeli-Palestinian dialogue aimed at “peaceful coexistence.”
That plan calls for the return of all hostages, living and dead, no further Israeli attacks on Qatar and renewed Israeli-Palestinian dialogue aimed at “peaceful coexistence.”
Also included in the proposal were the deployment of an international force to Gaza, and Israel agreeing not to annex the territory and drive out Palestinians living there.
Hamas said on Saturday that it had not been presented with the US plan.
