Morning update
Good morning Middle East Eye readers,
Here are the latest updates on the situation in Gaza:
-
US President Donald Trump has announced a 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza, saying he fully supports Israel’s goal of “destroying Hamas” if it refuses to accept the proposal.
-
The United Kingdom has endorsed Trump’s initiative, which has also drawn support from France, Italy, and a number of Arab and Muslim states, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Pakistan.
-
However, the leader of Palestinian Islamic Jihad dismissed the plan as a "recipe for aggression" against the Palestinians.
-
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued an apology to Qatar’s prime minister for the Israeli strike on Doha earlier this month.
-
Even as talks continued in Washington, Israeli attacks persisted in Gaza, leaving at least 39 people dead. Across the border, an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon killed one person.
