Smotrich: Accepting Trump's plan 'handing security over to foreigners'

Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich on Tuesday said that agreeing to Trump's Gaza plan is handing "security over to foreigners" and squandering an opportunity to "end Palestinian statehood ambitions".

In a social media post on X, Smotrich said that accepting the plan is a resounding diplomatic failure for Israel that will "end in tears".

"Is there no choice and is this the maximum that can be achieved right now?" Smotrich asked, criticising Netanyahu's "initial unwillingness to conquer Gaza". 

"Those are good questions. We will consult, consider and decide, God willing. But the celebrations since yesterday are simply absurd," he said.
