British home secretary calls protests demanding end to Gaza genocide 'fundamentally un-British'

Protests calling for an end to the genocide in Gaza were described by the British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood as “fundamentally un-British” as she called for other demonstrations this weekend to be cancelled following an attack on a synagogue on Thursday.

London’s Metropolitan Police also sought to pressure organisers off a pro-Palestinian protest planned for this weekend in Trafalgar Square, citing the attack on a Manchester synagogue which left two people dead.

Police claimed they need all officers focused on community protection, but resources were being diverted to handle the gathering of more than 1,000 people. The demonstration is being promoted by Defend Our Juries, in solidarity with Palestine Action, which the government outlawed in July.
