Over 490 people arrested in UK during Palestine Action protest

British police announced arresting 492 protesters in London during a rally in support of Palestinians in Gaza and the Palestine Action, an activist group designated as a “terrorist organisation” in the country in July.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged protesters to stay home this weekend, after a deadly synagogue attack on Thursday. In response, the organisers of the protest reiterated the intention to go ahead with the protest, urging police to dedicate their resources to protecting communities from reprisal attacks in the wake of Thursday's attack on a synagogue in Manchester.

The Metropolitan Police said in a post on X that "488 of the arrests were for supporting a proscribed organisation", adding that the youngest person arrested was 18, the oldest was 89."

According to the latest police update, 297 people remain in custody, while the rest have been bailed.
