Evening recap

Our live blog will shortly be closing until tomorrow morning.

Here are the day's key developments:

  • At least 70 people, including women and children, were killed in the attacks, including 47 people in Gaza City alone, according to the Gaza media office.

  • British police announced arresting 492 protesters in London during a rally in support of Palestinians in Gaza and the Palestine Action, an activist group designated as a “terrorist organisation” in the country in July.

  • Israeli military arrested at least 19 Palestinians from the village of al-Zweidin in Yatta Badia, south of Hebron in the occupied West Bank, following an Israeli settler attack, Wafa news agency reported.

  • US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan was a "vital opportunity" to stop bloodshed in the Palestinian territory "once and for all', UN rights chief Valker Turk said.

  • Huge numbers turned out at pro-Palestinian rallies in Europe, calling for an immediate end to Israel's war on Gaza and the release of activists on board a flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to the territory.

  • International activists who arrived in Istanbul after being deported from Israel following the military's interception of their Gaza-bound flotilla said they had been subjected to violence and "treated like animals".

  • US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and a senior envoy are heading to Egypt to finalise captive release details, a White House official said after Hamas reacted positively to a peace plan to end Israel's two years of war on Gaza.
