Private citizen and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner in Egypt for 'technical talks' on Gaza: White House

The White House on Monday confirmed that along with Special Envoy for Peace Missions Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner - a private citizen and real estate developer - is also currently engaged in "technical talks" on Gaza in Egypt.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called Hamas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's acceptance of the "framework" of Trump's 20-point plan for Gaza "an incredible achievement".

"What we saw take place on Friday... is truly remarkable," she told reporters. "The administration is working very hard to move the ball forward as quickly as we can. The president wants to see a ceasefire. He wants to see the hostages released, and the technical teams are discussing that as we speak, to ensure that the environment is perfect to release those hostages".

Negotiators on all sides are "going over the list of both the Israeli hostages and also the political prisoners who will be released," she added, potentially marking the first time the Trump administration has ever referred to the thousands of Palestinians held in Israeli jails as "political prisoners" - language that all Palestinian factions, including the Palestinian Authority, have consistently used.

"Hamas put out a very clear statement in the president's view, that they accept the president's framework," Leavitt told reporters.

"It's very important... that we get this done quickly... and then move to the next part of this, which is really ensuring that we can create a lasting and durable peace in Gaza, and ensure that Gaza is a place that no longer threatens the security of Israel or the United States," she added.

Hamas, since its inception in 1987, has not carried out acts known to threaten the US directly, and has focused solely on Israel.
