The Israeli army killed at least five Palestinians in renewed attacks across the Gaza Strip on Friday, despite announcing a resumption of the ceasefire earlier in the week.

According to local media, demolitions, artillery shelling, gunfire, and bombardment have continued in the blockaded strip since Thursday night, with the highest number of victims recorded in Gaza City and Khan Younis.

A young man was killed after an Israeli air strike attacked his home in the Musbah neighbourhood of Abasan al-Kabira town, east of Khan Younis. Another man in the city succumbed to wounds sustained in a previous bombing.

Israeli troops opened fire in the Shujaiya neighbourhood, east of Gaza City, killing one Palestinian and injuring another. The army also killed a fourth person in the city, near al-Jalaa Street.

Medical sources reported that a Palestinian was killed in Jabalia, north Gaza, after Israeli troops opened fire on civilians.

The latest Israeli assaults on the besieged enclave have compounded the already dire humanitarian crisis that over two million people are enduring.

As of Tuesday morning, Israel had committed at least 125 violations of the ceasefire agreement since 11 October, according to the Gaza government media office.

The breaches are expected to be higher, as the military launched a wave of aerial and ground attacks, killing over 100 Palestinians and wounding dozens more.

Meanwhile, health officials continue to raise the alarm over the lack of necessities entering the Gaza Strip. Only a limited number of food aid trucks have entered Gaza through the Kissufim crossing.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent said the entry was part of slow and tightly restricted humanitarian efforts, as Israel continues to strangle the enclave with its blockade and widespread destruction, despite agreeing to allow food trucks in.

More than 1,000 Palestinians in need of medical treatment have died since the genocidal war began due to Israel's ongoing restrictions on essential supplies entering the territory.

Overall, Israeli forces have killed nearly 70,000 Palestinians since 7 October 2023, and wounded over 170,000.

Fresh handover of bodies

Coinciding with the fresh Israeli attacks across Gaza, the bodies of 30 Palestinians were handed over to the Palestinian Ministry of Health as part of the prisoner exchange deal and handover of corpses between Israel and Hamas.

According to the ministry, this brings the total number of Palestinian remains received to 225.

In the past batches, Palestinian bodies handed over by Israel showed signs of severe torture, with some missing organs and limbs.

"The ministry confirms that its medical teams are continuing to handle the bodies according to approved medical procedures and protocols, in preparation for completing the examination, documentation, and handover to the families," it said in a statement.

On the other hand, Hamas has so far released 20 living Israeli captives in exchange for around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

The Palestinian movement has since released 15 out of a total of 28 deceased Israeli captives, with the rest expected to be handed over once located and recovered.
