Axios: Draft UN plan gives US and partners authority over Gaza
The Trump administration is pushing a draft UN Security Council resolution that would establish an International Stabilisation Force (ISF), which allows the US and partner countries to govern Gaza for up to two years, news organisation Axios reported.
The ISF would be granted a broad mandate, effectively taking over security and governance in Gaza, according to a copy of the draft resolution obtained by Axios.
The draft also says the ISF will perform “additional tasks as may be necessary in support of the Gaza agreement,” and that it will be established and operate “in close consultation and cooperation with Egypt and Israel.”
The force’s mandate will also include disarming Hamas, and demilitarising the Gaza Strip.
