Hamas hands over body of Israeli captive to Red Cross

Hamas has transferred a coffin said to contain the body of an Israeli captive to the Red Cross for handover to Israel, according to Al Jazeera reporters and the Israeli army.

The move follows the terms of the ceasefire deal, under which Hamas retrieved and returned the remains of captives held in Gaza.

This latest handover marks the 22nd of 28 bodies to be returned, with six still pending. 

The Israeli prime minister’s office confirmed that it has received the body of a deceased captive from the Red Cross.
