Israeli assault left 288,000 Palestinian families homeless, officials say

Israeli assault left 288,000 Palestinian families homeless, officials say

Gaza's Government Media Office on Thursday said that an estimated 268,000 houses have been destroyed by the Israeli assault and that 288,000 Palestinian families have been left homeless, causing a "severe housing crisis".

Unrwa says nearly the entire population of Gaza has been displaced, with many families returning home after the ceasefire only to find their neighbourhoods reduced to rubble.

Using satellite analysis from the UN Satellite Centre, Unrwa said around 81 percent of all structures in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed, a reflection of the devastation caused by Israel’s assault.

Israeli bombardments have levelled homes, hospitals and water networks, leaving Gaza’s infrastructure in ruins. Despite the ceasefire, Israel continues to strangle the enclave, keeping crossings closed and blocking essential aid and reconstruction materials from entering.

According to the Gaza health ministry, the Israeli genocidal war has killed over 68,800 Palestinians since October 2023. Another 10,000 are missing, presumed dead.

Israel has committed more than 200 violations of the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on 10 October, the director of the government media office in Gaza said.
