WCK launches new kitchen in starving northern Gaza

The World Central Kitchen (Wck) has resumed food operations in the besieged north of Gaza, preparing more than 3,000 meals for hospitals and displaced families on the first day of its newest facility.

In a statement on Thursday, the charity said the new kitchen would significantly increase its capacity to deliver aid across the enclave.

“The new kitchen expands WCK’s capacity in the region with plans to scale up to 40,000 meals per day in the coming weeks,” the organisation said.

Northern Gaza has faced extreme food shortages since Israel’s ground invasion cut off supply routes earlier this year. Many families there have survived on foraged plants or animal feed, with international aid agencies warning of worsening famine conditions.

The chairty organisation had suspended operations in Gaza last year after seven of its staff were killed in what it described as a “targeted attack” by Israeli forces in central Gaza. The killings prompted widespread international condemnation and raised alarm over the safety of humanitarian workers in the enclave.
