UN warns West Bank faces biggest displacement crisis since 1967

UN warns West Bank faces biggest displacement crisis since 1967

UN warns of mass displacement across West Bank as Israeli violence intensifies

  • The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha0 says the occupied West Bank is experiencing its worst displacement crisis in decades, driven by Israel’s demolitions, military raids and unchecked settler violence.

  • More than 1,500 Palestinians have been forced from their homes this year because Israel withholds building permits that Palestinians say are practically impossible to obtain. About 1,000 were expelled from Area C and another 500 from occupied East Jerusalem.

  • Satellite analysis shows roughly 1,460 structures destroyed or damaged in Jenin, Nur Shams and Tulkarem refugee camps during repeated Israeli assaults.

  • Settler attacks linked to the olive harvest have surged. Since 1 October, Ocha has recorded 167 violent incidents targeting 87 Palestinian communities, as armed settlers act with the protection of Israeli forces.

  • Israeli troops killed four Palestinians, three of them childre, between 4 and 10 November in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Since January, Israeli forces have killed 45 Palestinian children, nearly a quarter of all Palestinians killed in the territory this year.

  • Ocha says Israel’s prolonged military operations in Jenin, Nur Shams and Tulkarem have triggered the largest and longest displacement crisis in the northern West Bank since 1967.

  • Unrwa estimates that at least 31,919 Palestinian refugees have been driven from these camps and nearby neighbourhoods as Israeli forces continue large-scale incursions.
