Morning recap

Morning recap

Good morning Middle East Eye readers,

Here are the latest updates from Israel's war on Gaza:

  • Gaza’s civil defence said Israeli warplanes pounded several neighbourhoods through the weekend, killing at least 21 people and injuring dozens more, in what Palestinians described as another breach of the ceasefire.

  • Hamas said a senior delegation met Egypt’s intelligence chief in Cairo to discuss the second stage of the ceasefire arrangement, with talks focused on securing further pauses in fighting and the release of detainees.

  • Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh met former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to assess the situation in Gaza and the occupied West Bank after the UN Security Council passed its resolution calling for an end to the war.

  • Hezbollah confirmed that Haytham Ali Tabatabai, the group’s top military commander, died in an Israeli strike on Beirut. The attack levelled an apartment block in Dahiyeh, the movement’s stronghold in southern Beirut.

  • The strike that killed Tabatabai also left at least five people dead, according to Lebanese authorities, marking one of Israel’s most significant hits on Hezbollah’s leadership in recent months.
