United Nations distributes more than 5,000 tarpaulins after heavy rain in Gaza

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) said on Wednesday that on 24 and 25 November, its partners in Gaza managed to distribute 5,328 tarpaulins to 1,776 households after heavy rains and wind flooded and destroyed thousands of displacement tents over the past week.

Ocha also said that 2,232 blankets went out to 558 households in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis.

On Tuesday, an Ocha partner resumed tent distribution in Gaza City, the agency said, with the aim of providing one tent to each of the 258 families identified as requiring shelter there. 

Officials in Gaza had previously said that since the ceasefire went into effect, Israel has only allowed in 30,000 tents, while in actuality, in light of the weather conditions, the need is for 300,000 tents - ten times the amount.
