Israel revokes residency visas of Australian representatives in Palestine
Israel has revoked the residency visas of Australia's representatives in Palestine, in a move announced by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar. It comes in response to Australia's recent revocation of Knesset member Simcha Rothman's visa a day before he was due to arrive in the country.
In a post on X, Sa'ar further cited as a reason Australia's decision to recognise a Palestinian state in September, and wrote that he had "instructed the Israeli Embassy in Canberra to carefully examine any official Australian visa application for entry to Israel".
Rothman's cancelled visa, which Sa'ar called "unjustified", was described by Australian Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke as a refusal to allow those "coming to Australia to spread a message of hate and division".
