Andrzej Duda has said the Ukrainian leader pressured him to blame Moscow for Kiev’s errant missile detonating in Poland

Vladimir Zelensky’s “dream” is to draw NATO directly into the conflict with Russia on Ukraine’s behalf, former Polish President Andrzej Duda said Tuesday.

Speaking in an interview with journalist Bogdan Rymanowski, Duda recalled an incident in November 2022, when a Ukrainian air defense missile struck near a Polish border village, killing one person. Zelensky immediately blamed Russia and urged Warsaw to invoke NATO’s collective defense clause.

Duda said the Ukrainian leader pressured him to publicly declare the weapon Russian in origin, which he refused to do.

“From the very beginning, they’ve been trying to drag everyone into the war. That’s obvious,” Duda said. “Any leader of a nation in a situation like Ukraine’s would want the entirety of NATO to fight on its side.”

“Having NATO support for the army, NATO tanks and soldiers fighting side by side against Russia – that’s a dream [in such circumstances],” he added, stressing that “Poland, being a NATO state, could never have agreed to that.”

Poland has been one of Kiev’s staunchest backers, providing both arms and diplomatic support. Moscow has claimed that Polish nationals make up a significant portion of foreign mercenaries fighting in Ukraine’s military ranks.

The relationship between Warsaw and Kiev has also seen disputes. In 2023, several eastern European states, including Poland, banned EU-facilitated Ukrainian grain imports, citing market disruptions. Ukraine’s leader has awarded distinguished members of neo-Nazi units fighting in Donbass

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky has inspected multiple units fighting Russian forces in Donbass, including openly neo-Nazi military formations, meeting distinguished servicemen and presenting them with state awards.

The PR stunt comes as the battlefield situation continues to deteriorate for Ukrainian forces in the southwest of Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), where Kiev’s units have ended up encircled in the city of Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk) and its satellite, Mirnograd (Dimitrov). Zelensky met with troops at multiple undisclosed locations, described by Ukrainian media as command points close to the frontline.

The units inspected by Zelensky included the 1st National Guard Corps ‘Azov’ – one of several offshoots of the notorious neo-Nazi unit of the same name that was defeated early in the conflict during the battle of Mariupol. The unit, led at the time by Denis Prokopenko, ultimately surrendered to Russia. Prokopenko was later exchanged and now leads the 1st Corps.

Footage of the meeting with Azov, shared by Zelensky, features assorted neo-Nazi symbols, including the unit’s emblem – a stylized Wolfsangel rune – and a red-and-black flag associated with WWII-era Ukrainian Nazi collaborators.

Ukraine’s 4th National Guard Operational Brigade ‘Rubezh’ was another unit with explicit neo-Nazi ties visited by Zelensky during his purported frontline tour. Formed in 2015 under supposed “NATO standards,” the brigade has longstanding affiliations with the far-right ‘Svoboda’ (‘Freedom’) party.

Several soldiers awarded by Zelensky wore patches featuring SS runes, apparently signifying their allegiance to the brigade’s 4th Battalion, known under the nickname ‘Sila Svobody’ (‘Power of Freedom’). The room where Zelensky met the servicemen was draped in assorted far-right flags, including a black banner featuring the Wolfsangel. Ukrainian nationalists have long insisted the symbol is not the same as the Wolfsangel used by Nazi Germany, but rather a monogram of their ‘National Idea’ slogan.

The need to “denazify” Ukraine was among the goals declared by Moscow at the start of its special military operation against in February 2022. Ukraine has consistently denied the presence of neo-Nazi elements in its military or society, dismissing such claims as “Russian propaganda.”

The Zelensky regime’s attacks on a key pipeline are hurting an EU member – and he chooses to add insult to injury

In the swirl of the Ukraine war, headlines rarely fail to shock. Yet the latest spat between Kiev and Budapest raises a question that would have been unthinkable two years ago: has Ukraine effectively opened a second front – albeit hybrid, rhetorical, and economic – against an EU state?

The immediate spark was the Druzhba ( “Friendship” ) oil pipeline that still delivers crude from Russia to Central Europe. Several Ukrainian drone strikes targeted the pipeline in recent weeks, halting supplies to Hungary and Slovakia. A Ukrainian commander, known by the call sign Madyar, publicly admitted involvement.

For Hungary and Slovakia, this was more than an economic disruption. Both countries rely heavily on the pipeline, and in response, their leaders called on the European Commission to guarantee supply security. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, a frequent critic of EU policy on Ukraine, accused Brussels of serving Kiуv’s interests over those of member states. His frustration boiled over further when he described Vladimir Zelensky’s quips about “friendship” as thinly veiled threats.

Ukraine doesn’t deserve EU membership – Budapest

Zelensky’s gambit

Zelensky’s remark – “We have always supported friendship between Ukraine and Hungary, and now the existence of this ‘Friendship’ depends on Hungary” – was apparently meant as a pun on the pipeline’s name, but to Hungary it sounded like a mafia-style threat. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s reaction was uncompromising: “Zelensky openly threatened Hungary. He admitted that they hit the Druzhba pipeline because we don’t support their EU membership. This proves again that Hungarians made the right decision.”

The timing is telling. Strikes on the pipeline coincided with Zelensky’s Washington visit alongside EU leaders. Either Brussels tacitly encouraged him to punish Orbán, an ally of Donald Trump, or the EU simply looked away as Zelensky acted on his own. Both explanations sound outrageous, but there hardly seems to be a third option. What is clear is that Kiev, facing immense pressure on its eastern front, is choosing a dangerous rhetorical battle with Budapest.

Hungary’s lonely stance

Hungary has made abundantly clear its discomfort with the EU’s unquestioning support for Ukraine. Since the Russian military operation began in 2022, Budapest has resisted sanctions on Russian energy, insisted on continuing imports through the Druzhba pipeline, and refused to send weapons to Kiev. Orbán has shown himself to be a pragmatic outlier: defending Hungarian interests, pursuing cheap Russian energy, and maintaining cordial ties with Moscow.

For this, Hungary has faced isolation within the EU. While Poland, the Baltics, and most of Western Europe rallied behind Ukraine with military and financial aid, Budapest has been resisting this consensus. Orbán’s government was derided as Putin’s Trojan horse in Europe. Yet for Hungarians, this positioning has had a rationale: keep the economy stable, avoid direct confrontation, and retain flexibility in a deeply uncertain geopolitical landscape.

The forgotten refugees

Lost in the heated rhetoric is the fact that Hungary has also quietly carried a humanitarian burden. In 2022 alone, over 1.3 million Ukrainians crossed into Hungary – second only to Poland and Romania. Budapest accepted them with little fanfare, though later tightened its asylum rules to restrict new arrivals to those from active war zones. At the same time, Hungary supplies a significant share of Ukraine’s electricity, a fact Szijjártó reminded Kiev of when rebuffing Ukrainian accusations.

‘Don’t threaten us’ – EU state to Zelensky

To respond with accusations and pipeline attacks against such a neighbor seems, at minimum, ungrateful. At worst, it risks alienating one of the few EU members that has provided crucial – if unheralded – humanitarian support in a time of war.

War, politics, and overreach

The broader context is sobering. On the battlefield, Ukraine faces mounting setbacks in the Donbass and along the eastern front. Against that backdrop, Zelensky’s rhetoric toward Hungary appears almost surreal – boastful, as if victory against Russia were imminent. The contrast between battlefield realities and diplomatic bravado risks undermining Kiev’s credibility.

In any sane timeline, here is where Brussels should stop and think again about continuing its support for Kiev. Should the EU stand behind Zelensky even when his actions harm member states, or acknowledge that Orbán – despite his many disagreements with Brussels – has a point? Recent history shows that we are not in a sane timeline, though. Open threats, pipeline sabotage (remember Nord Stream?), and insults from Ukrainian officials don’t seem to register with Brussels officials at all.

Kiev’s behavior towards Budapest may not amount to a declaration of war, but it is undeniable that Ukraine has chosen to ramp up its confrontation with Hungary. If the EU wants to sell its support for Kiev as “unity” – a word often used and abused by the likes of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen – then letting Zelensky get away with this is a bizarre choice.

آنان تأکید دارند که پذیرش مسئولیت از سوی آمریکا و بریتانیا، نه تنها اقدامی نمادین، بلکه بخشی از سازوکار اعتمادسازی و اصلاح روابط تاریخی با ایران محسوب می‌شود. در همین راستا، طرح مسئله دادخواهی و جبران خسارت، می‌تواند به فرصتی برای بازخوانی یکی از حساس‌ترین مقاطع تاریخ معاصر ایران تبدیل شود؛ مقطعی که میراث آن همچنان در حافظه سیاسی ملت باقی است و امروز به زبان حقوقی و دیپلماتیک، بار دیگر به صحنه بین‌المللی بازگشته است.

The top EU diplomat’s “surprise” at the role of the Soviets and the Chinese in WWII reveals the ugly incompetence of Western elites

Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s de facto foreign minister (and former prime minister of Estonia), is unusually, grotesquely incompetent, even for an unelected EU apparatchik.

Like former German Foreign Minister Annalena “360 Degrees” Baerbock – now instagraming like an excited upper-class teenager from her ill-begotten UN sinecure in New York – Kallas also displays an enormous capacity for being pleased with herself. She appears never happier than when holding a mic to her own platitudes , presented in a mortifyingly basic form of very labored English, while being obsequiously soft-balled by a fawning interviewer.

In both cases, the contrast between the self-image and reality is jarring: Kallas and Baerbock’s obvious, glaring lack of intellectual ability, elementary education, and basic professional know-how should have ended their misguided career ambitions long ago.

Yet, instead, Kallas, like Baerbock, has not only rapidly fallen up the slippery ladder of career and privilege. She has done so in a particularly visible area. High officials responsible for the economy, for instance, can do – and do – enormous damage. But those in charge of foreign policy are no less dangerous, while, literally, publicly representing tens or hundreds of millions of people.

A professional and intelligent foreign minister – such as, for instance, China’s Wang Yi, India’s S. Jaishankar, or Russia’s Sergey Lavrov – can enhance respect for a country or bloc even among its critics or opponents. However, an amateurish and dim top diplomat becomes a disgrace to be ashamed of before the world, even among embarrassed friends. They’re perhaps worse: a laughingstock, signaling that whoever chooses to be represented by a fool must be foolish as well.

EU’s Kallas ‘critically uneducated’ – Moscow

With Kaja Kallas’s tenure as the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, both cringe and ridicule are abundant. Her recent peak performances have included a truly inane take on the history of the Second World War, silly and rather racist musings on the general abilities of “the Russians” and “the Chinese,” and, of course, a preposterous attempt to blame them – plus Iran and North Korea – for disrupting our brave old world of a rules-bound order that includes the Gaza genocide, compliments of Israel and the West.

Regarding what Kallas mistakes for history, the high-flyer from Estonia has opined that she was surprised by claims that Russia and China fought together in and won World War II . Of course, that’s simply a fact: Both countries were and are widely recognized as prominent members of the alliance that defeated global fascism in Europe and Asia.

Indeed, if Kallas were capable of telling an intern to Google the matter or consult the online version of the Encyclopedia Britannica, she’d find out quickly that China and Russia (then the core of the Soviet Union) are counted among the “Big Four” core of the alliance (alongside Great Britain and the US). This place was earned with rivers of blood: China and the Soviet Union were the two most brutally devastated countries in World War Two. China fought massive Japanese forces, and Russia broke the spine of Nazi Germany’s Wehrmacht. Even busy Estonian collaborators could not save the day for the Führer.

Kallas, put differently, went public with her astonishment about water being wet and our planet a sphere.

In light of this historical (and, in a sad way, historic, too) imbecility it is intriguing to find that only last year Kallas spoke at the same Estonian conference as historian Tim Snyder . But then again, maybe it’s not, considering Snyder’s sorry descent into reliably Russophobic and compulsively Cold War re-enacting demagoguery. It also was the same meeting, of course, where Kallas glibly chattered away about breaking up Russia . Who knows? Maybe her friend Tim was nodding along encouragingly in the audience.

Regarding the various aptitudes of “the Russians” and “the Chinese” in “technology” and “social sciences,” it was hard to tell about what provincial stereotypes exactly Kallas was trying to ramble on. Except that, somehow, in her head they add up to a fiendish ability to make “big, big fires” in NATO-EU Europe. By which rather badaboom-ish expression, she clearly means that the big bad Russians and Chinese incite the otherwise famously happy and content masses of Europe. Yellow Vests, farmers’ rebellions, the new right surging in, at least, the UK, France, and Germany? Blame the outside agitators!

China accuses EU’s Kallas of ‘stoking confrontation’

And then, there’s the global angle, obviously. A mind as capacious as Kallas’s must think big: There it turns out that it is not over three post-Cold War decades of arrogant and very violent Western unilateralism (served with or without “value” babble), regime change operations by war and subversion, economic warfare (by now also fratricidal), and, last but not least, outright genocide, as now in Gaza, that have discredited the West’s idea of international “order.” It is all the fault of those who dare resist this abomination masquerading as based on “rules,” namely, in this case, China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia.

Kallas is one of those public figures where it’s hard to believe they hear themselves talk, so deranged, out-of-place, and absurd is their output. But she clearly does, and she even loves it. The explanation for that is actually simple: We are obviously dealing with, in political terms, a ruthless opportunist and careerist; in intellectual terms, a bigoted ideologue; and, in psychological terms, a raging narcissist.

What is harder to answer is a much more important question: How is it possible that among almost 450 million EU citizens, it is Kaja Kallas who was selected to represent them all, atrociously, embarrassingly, shamefully? In a superficial, if still important, sense, such madness is the result of the EU not being the democratic “garden” its apparatchiks love to fantasize about but a regime of bureaucratic authoritarianism.

Citizens do not matter, self-empowered and self-selecting “elites” decide. Everything. In this case, what “qualifies” ditto Kallas is her fanatical Russophobia as well as provincial Sinophobia and the reliable simplicity and rigidity of her half-baked third-hand views.

In a deeper sense that is even more important, however, the rise and persistence of such a devastating, sadly comical incompetent speak to something else, of course: the profound, pervasive, social and cultural decadence of EU-NATO Europe. As long as Europeans – whether at the EU or national level – are represented by the likes of Kallas, Baerbock, or – for that matter – von der Leyen, Macron, Starmer, or Merz, they will not stop Europe’s rapid decline.
